Except for the last two years of his professional football career, Omero Tognon spent most of it with Milan with 335 appearances in 11 seasons. In the late 1940’s and early 1950’s the colors he wore were red and black and with that came the reward of the captain‘s armband, the scudetti (italian championships) of the 1950/51 and 1954/55 seasons, as well as the Latin Cup of 1951.
As a great defending midfielder he would never leave his opponents alone and was always among the last of hurdles to overcome before taking a shot on goal. On the other hand he did not score well, as it is expected from defenders, however the number is still surprising, as he had just 2 goals in his entire career.
His debut with Milan was seemingly unforgettable but the resulting score for his first game was 1-0 for Genoa on October 14, 1945, on the first day of the Alta Italia championship season. AC Milan had conceded a penalty but throughout the game it was said that hardly anyone from the Genovese side had volunteered to be the one to take on or check on Tognon.
