Did the Milan team that won the 1954/55 Scudetto really take on the name FC Milan? Among the many players immortalized as Rossoneri during that time were the clearly recognizable Nils Liedholm, Juan Alberto Schiaffino, Gunnar Nordahl and coach Bela Guttmann (who coached the team until mid-season and was then replaced by Puricelli). The team photo of that year showed them all with the same letters across their chests. It was certainly an odd spectacle.
Undeniably, the Milan team members were wearing their proper clothing that day, but instead of AC (for Associazione Calcio), their sweaters had the letters FC (for Football Club). One may ask, how is that possible? There is no clear answer to this day, but the simplest and more likely explanation may reside in the fact that there was an error carried out by workers at the clothing manufacturer. But it probably had something to do with a mix-up in reference to the Rossoneri who were in fact called Milan FC for a period of sixteen years (1920 to 1936), although this was many years prior to this event.
