In 1961, Milan was forced to return to the market to chase down a new striker and they needed their new player for the season in a very short window of time. In order to make it on time, the Rossoneri management flew to Argentina and picked up a Brazilian midfielder that played with the Boca Juniors. The deal ended well and easy because the South Americans believed that Sani had reached his limits, and had very little left to offer. As it turned out, it was a huge mistake by the Argentinians and brilliant intuition by the Rossonero management. The common thought by the Argentinians was that Sani didn’t really have much speed to be impressive, but he definitely had skill in being able to make accurate passes and long-shots, and therefore was renowned to be a valuable play-maker.
Dino Sani was the son of Italian immigrants that made his european debut with Milan. A few days after his arrival was a game against Juventus and it ended in triumph. Juventus, had perhaps thought they were going to take it easy with the Milan squad, that at the time, appeared to be in search of an identity. Instead Juventus were dealt an overwhelming five goals. Sani would go on to remain in Italy for three years, before deciding to return to his country of origin. Some had thought it was for a number of different reasons. Either it was thought there was bad blood between Sani and Rivera or the fact that he was turning 32 and possibly suffering from some ailment. Rivera had denied the rumors on his part, and it was later confirmed by Sani himself. Despite his short stint, his honours with Milan included a Scudetto and a European Champions Cup.
