It seems highly unlikely or against common-sense but believe it or not, it did happen that Milan and Inter played together against a common adversary. After all Inter did spawn from Milan in 1908. This rare occurrence of a Milan City “super-team” happened for the first time in 1949, to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of the AC Milan. On the date of November 27th (against Austria’s Vienna team), the best players from both teams took the field as Milan-Inter or the “rossonerazzurri”, wearing a commemorative jersey reflecting the red, black, and blue of both teams. It was certainly different from all other jerseys ever seen, and it was almost inconceivable for a fan of either of the teams. The jersey had one red line, one black and one blue, all three horizontal and was worn by players such as Franzosi, Belloni, Wilkes, Nordahl, Burini, De Grandi, Campatelli, Tognon, Miglioli, Folia, and Nyers.
The experiment only gave a limited impression since the Austrians won 4-3 after all. Of the 3 goals from the Rossonerazzzurri 1 came from Nordahl and 2 from Nyers. The jersey became absolutely rare and half a century later, it had disappeared from the San Siro museum, where all memorabilia of the Milano city teams are collected. In fact the jersey did not get stolen or lost, but it was taken by it’s rightful owner Onorato Arisi. As he retired from working at the San Siro museum, he was able to bring it back to his home as an heirloom.
