Milan Fact: Interesting Stats Behind the 100th Milano Derby

stats-behind-100th-derbyThe 100th Milano derby occured in the middle of the summer heat. It was played on July 21st, 1946 with a win by the Rossoneri (1-0) thanks to Ettore Puricelli and it was a goal that took place in the 20th minute of the second half. The Rossoneri striker connected with a kick from the pass expert Franzosi that was a nice shot from a distance.

The victory resulted in the balance of the Milan vs. Inter stats to perfect equality. The result was 40 victories apiece (plus 20 draws),  181 goals coming from Milan and 183 from Inter. One of the greater challenges of this game was the fact that it was among the final rounds of the 1945/46 Serie A championship. It was eventually won by Torino who came in 1 point ahead of Juventus and 6 ahead of Milan. The Rossoneri had won both derbies that year, but to think that Inter believed that it was going to be easy points for them that year. Instead the Nerazzurri eventually ended up two points below the Rossoneri.
