Milan Legends: The Other Rossoneri Players Behind The Gre-No-Li Trio

rossoneri-behind-gre-no-li-trioMilan’s first great trio Gre-No-Li consisting of Gren, Nordahl, and Liedholm earned the Rossoneri one scudetto and a Latin Cup in 1951. This result however came with more than just the three great players in the spotlight. The remaining eight players were also of such high calibre, class and size such as Renosto and Burini. The latter is a striker who, with great persistence, stayed with Milan for eight years and scored 88 goals in 190 appearances.

When compared to the other greats and legends as Van Basten, Shevchenko and Inzaghi, Burini’s record of  goals to appearances, is below only that of Nordahl, Altafini and Boffi. The other high calibre player Renosto (nicknamed “Toceto”, the Venetian tocio, or “gravy”) played only a single year, but left his mark. He was purchased from Venice for approximately sixteen million lire, and drew perfect crosses to the head of Nordahl, to the demise of the Rossoneri’s opponents.
