Milan History: The Early Milan-Inter Derbies

the-early-derbiesOn October 17th, 1915 the two teams from Milano faced each other for the “Gazzetta Dello Sport” Cup. AC Milan won 1-0 with a goal from Ferrario, but in the first half of the game, there were some interesting events. For the first time, there was a player that got suspended. Agradi, (an Inter player) was removed from the game following a foul on Sala. Sala was the player who famously changed his jersey to show “Hall” (a prank on the translation of his name from Italian to English) a few years ago. During this derby, AC Milan won with a goal from Cevenini I at 20′ of the second half after many early scuffles between fans.

For the second derby the following year, it was on November 7th, again for the same cup, there was another suspension after forty-three minutes, and a 1-1 score. To make things worse there was a fight between fans resulting from an outburst after some arguments to terrible refereeing decisions. This lead to a game suspension for one month from the Velodromo. The game date was reset to take place on November 28th but ended again at with a 1-1 score, the AC Milan goal coming from Van Hege.
