Milan Legends: Nobility For Milan As They Welcome “The Baron”

nobility-milan-welcome-baronThe last part of the Gre-No-Li acronym referred to “Il Barone” Nils Liedholm, the third of the Swedish trio who wore the Rossonero shirt earning the most titles in the world. This was before the record was overtaken by Clarence Seedorf in 2009. Upon his arrival at Milan, Liedholm hardly imagined jumping right into the hearts of the Milan fans. He played all his 394 games well, and his name was tied closely bringing Milan to another historical height. In his 12 unforgettable seasons, from 1949 to 1961, he contributed to the Milan’s new heights, with his eighty-nine goals, and four scudetto, which was more than AC Milan had won in their previous fifty years.

An interesting bit regarding his last game with the Rossoneri on Sunday, May 21, 1961, (Milan-Lecco 1-1), among his companions was a young Gianni Rivera. Liedholm left the Rossoneri at the age of thirty-eight years, seven months and thirteen days. The only other players to surpass that age with Milan were Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Costacurta and Enrico Albertosi.
