Milan History: Suspended Game for the Rossoneri?

ballWhen there are a few minutes remaining in a game, and the ball ends up in the stands, it’s easy for time to be wasted if it ends up on the side of winning fans. In the early days of football, it was possible to have minutes wasted with a ball being kicked in the stands. To what may seem like an eternity to the opposing team. This is what happened at the friendly between Milan Ausonia on November 10, 1907 with AC Milan looking to win the Palla Dapples Trophy.

This situation would not have happened in modern day, since replacement balls are available in abundance. With very little time to go at the end of the derby and Milan leading 2-0, the game was interrupted at 37 minutes, due to a missing regulation ball. This time around however, the ball had taken on too many kicks and was was deemed unusable. The event in this case was suspended and then cancelled. However to AC Milan’s benefit, they went on to win the tournament.
