Milan History: Swedish Goals That Stunned Juventus

swedish-goals-stunned-juventusWhen Hector Puricelli aka “Testina d’oro” (Golden Head) became coach in place of Bela Guttmann, he had a roller coaster to deal with the Rossoneri’s 1955 winter crisis. His main goal was to make sure the past was behind them. On May 15, 1955, the Rossoneri gave proof of their momentum with with a winning season, and game against Juventus scoring three goals (final score 3-1). It had started with a one goal lead by the Bianconeri with a strike from Boniperti, who later got injured and was pulled out of the game.

Before the referee was able to decree the end of the first half, Nordahl scored a goal to restore parity. In the second half, it was another bombardment as there was another goal launched into the back of the Juve net. Milan continued to play better and better while Juventus suffered the absence of their ace striker. Nordahl continued to be the usual thorn-in-the-side of the opposing defense and doubled his score. Juventus struggled to prevent another knockout goal, but they were silenced by a strike from Liedholm by about twenty-five meters away.
