François Menno Knoote

The first dutch Milan player was called François Menno Knoote. Coming from a nobile family, Knoote was among the first soccer players from the Netherlands. He was part of the national team that had reached the national finals and played for Milan a single year (1906). As a champion of Italy (two appearances), he also decided to go another direction in which he had great talent: opera singing. It was thanks to this this natural talent that Knoote arrived in Milano at the end of the nineteenth century to learn to sing at the city conservatory.

During his permanency in Italy, Knoote got to know the Pirelli brothers, who convinced him to venture into football together while founding Milan. Despite this  however, singing remained his true passion, and knowing that he could ruin his voice when it rained, he apparently preferred not to play, but rather watch his team companions take part in the game instead.
