The strategic developments and preparations for the 1954-55 season gave an expected result for all Milan fans! That year the Rossoneri were under management of former Bologna and Milan player Hector (Ettore) Puricelli, nicknamed “Testina D’Oro” (Golden Head). Although it was a lukewarm opener for the 1954-55 season with Atalanta, it ended up with Milan calling the shots on a 3-1 victory. The Rossoneri also marked their first record for away wins, the largest of them being an 8-0 score against Genoa.
The scudetto for that season also marked a fifth title win for Nordahl. Milan was also promoted to participate in the first European Cup established by the International Federation. Rizzoli celebrated by inviting the entire team out for dinner, but he was the last one to arrive. The club’s president arrived late because his car was stuck in a traffic jam created by Milan fans as they celebrated their victory. To further celebrate their triumphs, a Friendly game was organized whereby the Rossoneri would play the Honved FC Hungarian team (interestingly they also share the Red and Black (Rossonero) colors), and at the time, they were one of the strongest teams on the European continent. Among the players representing Milan as champions of Italy for the fifth time were the following: Buffon, Beraldo, Zagatti, Liedholm, Pedroni, Bergamaschi, Sorensen, Vicariotto, Nordahl, Schiaffino, Frignani.
