The career of defender Francesco Zagatti from Venaria Reale was the life of a Rossonero from beginning to end. Starting at the Milan youth to Milan’s professional team for eleven seasons, he played with great ferocity in his signature “zig-zag” pattern that never let up. At Milan he played for 214 games between 1952 and 1963, 252 games if we count the 4 years he played in the Milan youth “Primavera” team).
Zagatti retired the very year of Milan’s first European Champions League victory, the Cup of Champions of 1963. But his list of championship wins did not stop there. The span of his career gave way to four Scudetti and a Latin Cup.
After retirement as a player, he continued his role with the Rossoneri as a coach for the Milan Primavera for 5 years, from 1965 to 1970. Twelve years later, he completed his lifetime of service with the Rossoneri as he went on to coach AC Milan in 1982.
