De Vecchi

What do the “Son of God” Renzo De Vecchi and the “Golden Boy” Gianni Rivera have in common? Beyond just being part of the class of natural talents, they were part of the early debut in the top order of Italian players, which before World War was called the First Category “Prima Categoria.” De Vecchi, in this regard, is the recordman: his first game in the Rossoneri uniform dated back to November 14th, 1909, with a match against Ausonia, ending Ausonia 2-1 Milan. At the time he was of the young age of fifteen years, nine months and fourteen days old.

Rivera

Gianni Rivera, exactly fifty years later, had his debut with the Alessandria. On June 2nd, 1959 the gray Piedmontese would play a game against Inter, a sign of things to come, a really young Rivera who was fifteen years, nine months and eighteen days old. Only Rivera, unfortunately, will have made it to Milan’s list of long-lasting legends, since De Vecchi will have made his mark eventually with Genoa.
