Milan Legends: Midfielder and Captain Giuseppe Antonini

milan-legends-giuseppe-antoniniGiuseppe Antonini was a midfield playmaker with a great sense of loyalty to Milan. Not only was he a distributor of footballs but he also captained Milan for the last five years of his career. Born in Verona in 1914, he spent twelve years of his professional career in the Rossoneri shirt. He was perhaps not the best player of all time, but precisely for this reason Antonini had managed to carve out his place in the history and glory of Milan, by virtue of his fighting for the city and the team.

Antonini’s journey with the Diavoli started September 12, 1937, with a game that ended Milan-Liguria 2-1. His best year happened some time after that during the 1946-47 season, whereby he scored six goals reaching his personal record. In his career with Milan he played 288 matches scoring twenty-four goals. His farewell took place in 1949 and coincided with a very exciting period that signaled the arrival of the three Swedes that would change the history of the Milan community.
