In 1907 AC Milan, a year before it lost its cricket team, celebrated its third title in its centennial history. Milan rivaled by 3 teams: the US (Unione Sportiva) Milanese, Torino and Andrea Doria. The latter is the usual opponent for the group stage of Lombardy. Both away and at home (6-0, 0-1), the rossoneri manage to establish themselves and win their way to the finals, where they find Genoa and Torino waiting. The encounters turn out to be more difficult against the unbeaten Piedmontese (1-1 away, 2-2 home); while Ligurians succumb twice in defeat (5-0,0-2). Torino ends up with a point for the away draw in Liguria and therefore gets six points, enough for President Edwards’ team to win his third national title in eight years.
The win comes from a less than English, but mostly Swiss-player Milan, with arrivals Imhoff and Midler. Milan also won the gymnastics championship beating Vicenza 3-1 in the semifinals and Andrea Doria 2-1 in the final. That year of double success coincided with a proposal from the Gazzetta Dello Sport to play a championship game without foreigners. A project that will prove damaging for Milan. That year’s champions of Italy consisted of the following players: Radice, Meschia, Moda, Bosshard, Trere I, Piazza, Trere II, Kilpin, Widmer, Imhoff, Madler, with coach Angeloni.
